Herbert Irvin Taylor of Central Point celebrated his 90th birthday Aug. 2, 2015, at Living Praise Tabernacle in Jacksonville. Friends and family totaling about 245 attended the celebration.
Taylor is the eldest of five children born to Irvine and Louise Taylor. He served in World War II on a USS Megrez AK126 Cargo Ship. After the war he went to work at Taylor Brothers Sawmill in Ashland, and soon he loved timberfalling, being out in the woods and being his own boss. He retired after 34 years.
Taylor shared his gratitude for Gordon Peterson praying with him over 60 years ago to devote himself to the Lord. He has faithfully served ever since.
"I quit drinking and never went back to it," he said.
