Free Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs

Free Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs

If you’ve been holding back on installing energy-saving compact fluorescent lightbulbs because you think they’re too expensive, here’s your chance to pick up some free ones:
Go the Energy Trust of Oregon website (energytrust.org) and fill out their Online Home Energy Analyzer.

It’ll take about 20 minutes, because it’s a fairly in-depth questionnaire that asks all sorts of questions about your home, habits and use of energy. When you’re finished, you’ll have a useful report that spells out where your energy costs are going, along with tips about ways to cut down on your utility bills.

For filling out the analyzer, the Energy Trust will send you four free compact fluorescent lightbulbs.

If you already spend too much time on a computer at work and don’t want to do online homework, or if you’re not Internet savvy, you can call Energy Trust and schedule a free home energy review. The non-profit organization will send out an inspector, at no cost to you, and they’ll go over your home with a fine-tooth comb looking for ways you can cut down on energy consumption in your home. If you go this route, they’ll not only install the free compact fluorescent light bulbs for you, they’ll also install faucet aerators and water-saving showerheads.

“The idea is to help people save energy and money,” says Jan Schaeffer, a spokesperson for the Energy Trust of Oregon.

The Energy Trust has been offering free lightbulbs through the program since 2003. As of March 1, the organization had performed 13,000 home energy reviews, while 4,500 people have opted for the online questionnaire.

They’ve given away 18,000 free energy-saving lightbulbs to people who have filled out the online questionnaire, and 78,000 lights to people who have taken advantage of the free energy review.

For more information or to schedule a home energy review call the Energy Trust of Oregon at 866-ENTRUST.
