Frances Fitzgerald Weaver

Frances Fitzgerald Weaver, who was born and raised in Sams Valley, celebrated her 104th birthday Dec. 18, with a family luncheon at Edwina Gardens.

She was joined by her nephew Walt Fitzgerald, two nieces, Sheila Fitzgerald Batz and Dee Fitzgerald D'Haem, Bill D'Haem, and great-nieces Lisa and Catherine Batz.

Frances was born Dec. 18, 1903, in Sams Valley. She started teaching at age 18 in a one-room schoolhouse in Drew. She later taught at Lindenhurst, which is now under the water of Lost Creek Lake, and in Talent.

Nineteen years as a first-grade teacher at Roosevelt Elementary School completed her teaching career. She is thrilled to know that Roosevelt will be rebuilt. She still has former first-graders that keep in contact, some over 70 years old.

Frances is a 50-year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Medford.

She loves having visitors and enjoys political discussions. She has never missed voting in an election.
