Carl E. "Pete" and Virginia L. Vogel celebrated their 60th anniversary on July 3, with a casual dinner at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, SuAnne, and Randy Cleveland, in the foothills north of Ashland.

The event, with 20 to 25 guests attending, was hosted by the Clevelands, her brother, Mark and his wife Peggy from Scottsdale and their sister Elizabeth and family. Excellent weather, a view of the valley from the large deck and delicious food was the perfect setting. Honored guests were Greta and Charles Hollowell, attendants at the Vogel wedding, now living in Port Orford. Yvonne and Joey Ngan, originally foreign students, now part of the Vogel family and Elaine Pardee, a friend of 48 years, also attended.

Carl and Virginia were married July 3, 1948, at the Chapel of Rock and Roses, where the Courthouse now stands. They honeymooned on the Oregon Coast.

They met in 1946 when Carl returned from duty in World War II and Virginia moved from Seattle.

Carl retired from Consolidated Freightways after 35 years, Virginia closed her Certified Public Accounting office in June 2004. For 40 years Carl maintained the barn and land at Oak and Hersey for the family's horses; now his focus is on gardening. Virginia is in the OWLS writing group. They both thoroughly enjoy their seven grandchildren.
