Richard "Dick" E. and Clara B. Torrey celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Nov. 23 with a family dinner in Portland.

Hosts of the event were their children and spouses, Dean and Molly Torrey of Medford, David and Wendy Torrey of Portland, Rozann and Roy Stephen of Hermiston, and Sandra and Don Shrewsbury of Tacoma, Wash.

Richard Torrey married Clara Smith on Nov. 7, 1947, at the First Baptist Church in Eugene.

Clara graduated from Myrtle Creek High School and attended business college. During World War II, she served in the U.S. Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) at Norman, Okla., and Anacostia, D.C.

Richard graduated from Hamilton Union High School in California and from Columbia University, New York, Midshipman School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a navigator on two ships in the Pacific.

In 1961, the Torreys moved to Medford from Eugene.

Richard Torrey worked in the plywood industry for 35 years, first as a salesman for Pacific Resins and Chemicals Inc., and then as a supervisor for Fourply Inc., in Grants Pass.

The Torreys are members of Westminster Presbyterian Church. They enjoy traveling in their RV, golfing and bowling.

They have 11 grandchildren.
