John and Nancy Miller of Talent celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Wildlife Safari in Winston on June 1, where they enjoyed a scheduled, close-up animal encounter accompanied by park rangers.

Their son Erik, his wife Katy and granddaughters Amanda and Kari celebrated their anniversary with them during Memorial Day weekend.

John Miller married Nancy Grant on June 1, 1958, in Rochester. N.Y.

Both are graduates of the Eastman School of Music, Nancy a French horn major, John in piano and composition.

The Millers moved to McMinnville in 1959, where John taught at Linfield College for the next eight years.

After four years at the University of Oregon, where John earned his Ph.D. in German literature, he accepted a position at Southern Oregon College, which became Southern Oregon University during John's tenure. John retired in 1997, having taught both music and German and been active in administration.

Nancy continued her library career begun at the Sibley Library of the Eastman School, working first in the Eugene Public Schools and later at Ashland High School.

She played horn in the Rogue Valley Symphony Orchestra, and is currently playing in the Southern Oregon Concert Band. As a board member of the Friends of the Talent Library she continues her involvement with libraries.
