Coy and Barbara McFarland of Medford celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Feb. 17 with a family dinner and get-together at their daughter's home in Cave Junction. The event was hosted by their daughters.

Coy McFarland married Barbara Ann Fort on Feb. 15, 1958, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Jacksonville.

Barbara moved to Oregon in the 1940s with her parents, Charles and Sigrid Fort. Coy moved to Grants Pass soon after with his parents, Clyde and Claudia McFarland.

Barbara graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School and Coy graduated from Grants Pass High School. They met at the roller skating rink on Rogue River Highway, were engaged a few weeks later and were married within three months.

Coy worked his entire career at Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1992.

Barbara stayed home to raise their four children. She then went back to college at Southern Oregon University and received an associate degree and became the office manager at St. Mary's High School.

The McFarlands have four children, Chet (Shelly) McFarland of Twin Falls, Idaho; Karen (Jeff) Stiles of Cave Junction; Donna (Joe) Ritzinger of Medford; and Teresa (Doug) Burkhart of Central Point. They also have 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one on the way.
