Marvel and Robert (Bob) Storey celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Aug. 4, 2016.
Marvel Colene Cole was born in Follansbee, West Virginia, Feb. 19, 1930, to Joyce and Richard Cole. Robert Marion Storey was born in Kansas City, Kansas, March 15, 1926, to Elizabeth and Leonard Storey.
Marvel and Robert were married in Oakland, California, Aug. 4, 1946. Bob, a football star, graduated from Handley High School in Fort Worth, Texas. Marvel attended Alameda High School in Alameda, Calif. The couple met at a CSO club during World War II in San Francisco.
It was love at first sight, according to Bob (at the time a U.S. Navy signalman on shore leave), and they were married less than two years later. They moved to Fort Worth, where Bob was employed with the U.S. Postal Service and Marvel worked at Handley Bank.
Their son, Robert Dudley Storey, was born Dec. 7, 1948, with another son, William Leonard Storey, born April 8, 1952. Their highly anticipated daughter, Rebecca Ann Storey, arrived July 25, 1953.
Bob entered the Postal Inspection Service in 1963, and the family moved to Riverside, Calif., shortly after. A promotion sent the family to Anaheim, Calif., in 1966. In 1974, the children grown, Bob and Marvel moved to Seattle, Wash., where Bob was promoted to acting inspector in charge of the Pacific Northwest, and Marvel continued working in banking.
After retirement in 1980, the couple split time between their ranch in Wimer and their home south of Ensenada, Mexico. They moved to Medford in 2005 in order to be closer to their beloved granddaughters Hallie Marlene Storey, born Feb. 22, 1988; Carlee Rebecca Storey, born Aug. 7, 1990, and McKenna Colene Storey, born Feb. 4, 1992.
