William L. "Bill" and Marvel Martin of White City celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 27 with a dinner at the Olive Garden.

The event was hosted by their daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Dan Gunter.

Twenty family members attended, including Marvel's 92-year-old mother, Alice, which made it five-generation celebration. The Martins also celebrated their anniversary with a trip to the coast. William's 93-year-old mother, Leta, who resides at an adult foster home, was unable to attend, as well as their son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Terri Martin, who live in West Virginia and their daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Gary Coon, who live in Nevada.

William and Marvel met in 1955 when he came home on leave from the Navy. William's family had moved from Kansas to Medford at that time. Marvel's family had moved from North Dakota to Medford in 1951.

William L. Martin married Marvel J. Dalbec on Sept. 26,1958, at the First Church of God in Medford. Pastor Wilton E. Martin (no relation) officiated.

William was discharged from the U.S. Navy in May 1962 and returned to Medford where he worked in local mills, drove logging trucks as well as working in long-haul trucking. He now works as a security guard for a local mill in White City.

Marvel was a stay-at-home mom raising their three children and then baby-sitting the grandchildren while their parents worked. Marvel has worked the last 17 years at Dick's Market in Central Point.

William and Marvel enjoy camping, fishing, hunting and spending time with family. They have nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild due in December.
