Ted and Maggie Anderson of Ashland recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on the East Coast.

Ted and Maggie were married May 11,1957, in Reno, Nev.

A dinner was held at the Sky Line Plaza at Ruth's Chris Restaurant in Washington, D.C. The restaurant has a panoramic view overlooking the Potomac River, the National Capitol Monuments and the White House. Their son Michael Anderson, their daughter Patti and husband, Dr. Rick Pfau, and daughters Jasmine and Gracie, their son Shawn and Holly Anderson and sons Ted and Matt, hosted the dinner.

Their family presented them with a special gift of a "Romance in the Gorge Package" at the Columbia Gorge Hotel on the Columbia River.

Prior to the dinner their son Shawn and daughter-in-law Holly Anderson hosted a luncheon and photo taking session at their home in Springfield, Va. In attendance were Ted and Maggie's family and guests Cliff and Faith Saunders, Holly's parents, John and Celia Martin, Tina Saunders and her daughters Emily and Alayna.

Ted and Maggie have lived in Ashland for the last 25 years. Prior to that Ted served in the United States Air Force for 29 years.

He had 89 combat missions in Vietnam. He was awarded the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters and retired as a lieutenant colonel.

Ted's second career was in real estate. He was active in both local and state real estate associations. He was selected Realtor of the Year in 1995. He retired in 2005 after 20 years in the business.

Maggie was a military wife for over 25 years. She has a lot of hobbies. She collects early American antiques including antique quilts and oil paintings of the early 1900s.

She had a variety of jobs after they retired from the Air Force. She managed a delicatessen, spent four years with the Ashland Antique Emporium where she managed 50 dealers, and she was office manager for their son's computer business.

Both Maggie and Ted worked with the Boy Scouts of America for many years and their two sons are Eagle Scouts. They are also very active in Rotary International, Ted serving as district governor and both he and Maggie are major donors to the Rotary Foundation.

For Maggie and Ted, every day is a new adventure and a celebration of 50 wonderful years together.
