Tour will promote NW pears in China

Northwest pear growers are trying to make inroads for their crop in China.

Just last winter, the Pear Bureau Northwest finally got the go-ahead from the Chinese government to ship their products there.

But so far, Oregon farmers have only shipped about 11 thousand crates to the country.

Now, the Pear Bureau is planning to retrofit a truck in China to travel the country showcasing Northwest pears.

The plan is to have a Chinese nutritionist on board who would talk about the health benefits of pears.

A chef would also be along for the ride, to demonstrate ways to incorporate western pears into Chinese cooking.
