John Zupan, a broker with Windermere Van Vleet in Medford, has been named Oregon Realtor of the Year, the highest honor bestowed by the state's real estate industry.

Zupan twice has been named Realtor of the Year by the Rogue Valley Association of Realtors, or RVAR, and has received the Oregon Association of Realtors Distinguished Service Award. He has a long tenure as a RVAR board member and chaired seven local and state committees, volunteering for a total of 36 yearly terms. He also has served as president for the Southern Oregon Multiple Listing Service and the RVAR.

Realtor of the Year is based on a recommendation by the state board and an executive committee composed of past winners of the award. It is designed to recognize an association member providing outstanding service to all Realtor organizations, the profession and the community.


Southern Oregon University graduate John Colyer has been named vice president for global industrial converting at Sonoco in Hartsville, S.C. Colyer has been given the responsibility of running Sonoco's expanding global protective packaging operations. He also will continue to oversee the company's tubes and cores, and wire and cable reels businesses.

Colyer was vice president for North America converting. He began his career at Sonoco in 1983.


Rogue Federal Credit Union received four individual honors and a second place for the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award at the Northwest Credit Union Association's Summit Awards event.

RFCU board member Liz Shelby received the Oregon Volunteer Advocate of the Year award. Shelby has served on the credit union's board since 2004 and is a member of the credit union's Governmental Affairs Committee.

RFCU board Chairman Jerry Hauck was recognized on the Volunteer Honor Roll for his willingness to stay informed on any topic related to the credit union and the financial system overall. Hauck, a retired Ashland High teacher, was described as a natural board leader, providing insight and direction at board and subcommittee meetings.

Board member Jackson Jones entered the Volunteer Recognition Hall of Fame. He has been a member of the credit union for more than 40 years and has served on the board during that period.

President and CEO Gene Pelham received the Credit Union Professional of the Year award, given to the industry leader whose accomplishments have had the most positive impact on his or her credit union and its members.
