Local business in brief

Lithia Motors has shuttered its Loveland, Colo., L2 used car store and called off plans to build another L2 in Urbandale, Iowa.

Lithia spokesman Robert Sacks confirmed the closure of the Loveland operation, the first of the company's new concept stores, that opened last August.

Lithia will concentrate efforts on markets where there is present demand, rather than locations where it anticipates future demand, Sacks said.

"While we continue to believe in the (L2) model, we're delaying growth," Sacks said.

The closure reduced the publicly traded auto retailer's L2 store count to four.

The Des Moines (Iowa) Register reported this week that Lithia scrapped plans to build a used-car dealership as part of its restructuring plan announced earlier this month.

Lithia had begun work on a seven-acre site before the project was called off. The auto retailer opened an L2 store in April in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Employees have gone through background checks and possess food handler's cards and infant/child CPR and first-aid credentials. The standard blocks for service in Jackson and Josephine counties run from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m.
