Room demand at Southern Oregon's motels and inns rose 10.9 percent in January over the first month of 2010.

According to figures compiled by Smith Travel Research Inc. of Tennessee, more than 90,000 rooms were filled in the area, producing revenue in excess of $5.8 million during January, up 7.9 percent from a year earlier.

Although room rates fell 2.7 percent to $64.73, revenue per available room grew nearly 8 percent to $21.86.

On the whole, statewide demand rose more than 8 percent, producing $61.3 million in revenue.

Northwest Farm Credit Services, which provides financial services to farmers, ranchers, agribusinesses, timber producers, rural homeowners and crop insurance customers in five Northwest states, including Oregon, reported earnings of $150.1 million in 2010.

Loan volume grew slightly to $8.3 billion, while delinquencies were 1.3 percent on Dec. 31, up 0.2 percent from the year before.
