CENTRAL POINT — The Grange Co-op said it will pass out a record $967,540 in credits and dividends to patrons who made more than $500 worth of purchases during 2008. Dividend checks will be mailed out this month.
The Grange Co-op said its 2008 sales increased $3.4 million, or 6.3 percent, to $57,648,638.
The Grange pays dividends to members and to nonmembers who spend at least $500 annually.
Typically, 20 percent of nonmember dividends are paid in cash and 80 percent are paid in equity credits. Members and full- and part-time farmers and ranchers typically receive 30 percent of the dividend in cash and 70 percent in equity credits.
Grange Co-op added more than 2,694 dividend patrons in 2008. The co-op is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
The Oregon Department of Agriculture is seeking applicants for the state's 25 agricultural commodity commissions. The deadline for applying is May 8.
Appointees administer producer assessments spent on the commodity commission's promotion, education and research projects. This year, 69 commissioner positions are open. Most appointments are for a three-year term beginning July 1. The Oregon orchardgrass, potato, salmon, sheep, trawl and wheat commissions have four-year terms.
