McMahan's Furniture, the Santa Monica, Calif., retailer which earlier this month said it was closing its Medford store, Monday announced it was going out of business altogether.

The family-owned business established in 1919 did not give a timeline for the store closings, saying only it will happen within the next few months.

McMahan's blamed the economic downturn and the declining market for home furnishings. Before closing stores in recent months, the chain had 17 McMahan's Furniture stores and La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries in California and Oregon.

The La-Z-Boy store in Phoenix is not connected to McMahan's.
