Yoga workshop a fundraiser

Donations for a Sunday yoga workshop will benefit an Ashland artist and set designer diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

Rasa Center for Yoga and Wellness in Medford is hosting the two-hour "restorative" session to raise funds for Troy Hemmerling, a longtime Ashland resident and set designer for local theaters, including Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Hemmerling, 47, was diagnosed in November with mucinous cancer of the appendix, one of only 300 to 1,000 cases seen each year in the United States. Not a candidate for surgery, Hemmerling is undergoing chemotherapy and treatment from specialists in Houston.

A $15 donation is suggested to participate in the series of standing and seated poses with passive and moving meditations designed by Rasa yoga therapist Natalie Stawsky to calm the mind, improve concentration, ease anxiety and promote healthy sleep. The workshop is planned for 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 25, at Rasa, 3132 State St. No. 200, Medford. For more information and to register, call 541-245-2667.
