Will cell antennas sell well?

Ashland’s Planning Commission takes up a hotly debated issue tonight: whether to allow the construction of new cell antennas on the rooftop of the Ashland Street Cinemas.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Ashland Civic Center, 1175 E. Main St. It’s open to the public, but the commission does not plan to take more public testimony on the topic.

Cell-service provider AT&T has proposed installing 12 cell antennas atop the cinema building at 1644 Ashland St.

Antenna opponents said they were concerned that radiation from the antennas could harm their health, that the antennas could drive away business and that the antennas would be unsightly.
AT&T wants to add the antennas to improve spotty cell coverage in the area.
