Walk for suicide prevention

A community walk this weekend strives to bring about suicide awareness and prevention at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Bear Creek Park in Medford.

One of many community walks held nationwide, the event is meant to bring attention to the 38,000 people in the U.S. who die at their own hand each year, according to the Out of the Darkness website. It raises money for improving understanding of suicide and the psychiatric illnesses that can lead to it, as well as efforts to prevent suicide.

Registration starts at 9 a.m. For more information or to donate, visit www.outofthedarkness.org.
