UPDATED: White City facility closing; almost 200 jobs lost nationwide

WHITE CITY, Ore. — A Kentucky-based company is closing its garden seed distribution center in Southern Oregon.

The Ferry-Morse Seed Co. notified state officials Monday of the layoff of almost 200 people across the country, including at its White City distribution center. The company said in a letter of intent filed with the state that closure here is permanent.

Ron Fox, executive director of Southern Oregon Regional Economic Development Inc., estimated that 20 to 25 local jobs would be lost.

Ferry-Morse opened the facility in 2009, anticipating it would reduce transportation costs and time needed to serve West Coast customers.
