UPDATED: Police name suspect in robbery reported at downtown bank

4:15 p.m. Medford police have arrested Joe David Campos, 39, of the 4300 block Avenue A, White City, on a third-degree robbery charge.

He is suspected of entering the Key Bank branch at the corner of East Main Street and South Front Street this afternoon, approaching a teller and aggressively demanding money. Medford police said bank employees believed he was going to jump over the counter. The teller gave him an undisclosed amount of cash and he fled.

Officers spotted Campos, who fit the description of the robber, riding a bike east on 12th Street from Riverside Avenue and stopped him nearby at 10th and Cottage streets.

2:40 p.m. Medford police quickly detained a suspect in this afternoon's robbery of the Key Bank in downtown Medford after they discovered him riding his bike just blocks from the East Main Street bank.

The unidentified man was found riding a black bicycle at 10th and Cottage streets about 10 minutes after the 1:22 p.m. robbery at the 2 E. Main St. branch, police said.

Officers quickly found a picture of the suspect from the bank's surveillance camera and were able to positively identify him as the suspect and arrested him, Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau.

The man entered the bank and stood in line until a teller was open, then he demanded money, Budreau said. He did not indicate that he was armed, and he took an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing on a black bicycle, Bureau said.

1:40 p.m. Medford police have responded to a report of a robbery at a Key Bank branch at 2 E Main St., Medford.

Entrances facing East Main and South Front streets have been closed off with police tape, which also encircles the ATM at the branch.

Investigators are on scene.
