Two men charged in Craigslist-driven attempt to lure teen boy

Medford police have arrested two men suspected of using Craigslist to lure a teenage boy to a planned sexual encounter.

Mark Doty, a 41-year-old registered sex offender, and Cameron Lauckner, 19, were arrested Thursday on charges of luring a minor, first- and second-degree online sexual corruption of a child and unlawful delivery of marijuana to a minor. Both men, who have no address listed on Jackson County Jail records, remain in jail on $95,000 bail.

The case started when a 16-year-old boy told his parents on Wednesday about meeting two men via Craigslist, police said. His parents contacted police.

Investigators determined that the teen met the two men on Craigslist through a listing under "Casual Encounters." The boy and the men he connected with online began exchanging photos and videos via cellphone and agreed to meet for what police believe was a sexual encounter.

On Sunday, the teen met with the two suspects in their van in the parking lot of the Medford Center. The men gave the boy marijuana, but the boy left after becoming concerned for his safety, a police news release said today.

Police identified Doty and Lauckner as the suspects and found them in a van in the parking lot of Lowe's at about 10 p.m. Thursday.

Police believe that both suspects were aware that the person they met and plied with marijuana was only 16. Doty has prior criminal convictions for similar behavior, police said.
