A CHILDREN'S COSTUME PARADE is planned for 10 a.m. today at the Rogue Valley Growers and Crafters Market, held in the armory at 1701 S. Pacific Highway. Line up near the market information booth and receive a free market buck at the end of the parade. The market runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursdays through Nov. 21.
"YOU ARE TRAVELING through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind ..." Find out how local writers explored Rod Serling's creepy fifth dimension, "The Twilight Zone," during readings of short plays at 6:30 p.m. in the Gresham Room at the Ashland library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. They were developed in a workshop led by playwright Dave Hill, who studied with Serling. The evening is presented by Ashland Contemporary Theatre. Admission is free.
"JUST SAY BOO" and other Halloween favorites will be read by librarian Margie Cicerrella at 2:30 p.m. as a prelude to the Children's Halloween Parade. Bring your preschool princesses, ninjas and Supermen to the Ashland library for finger plays and stories such as "Ghosts in the House" and "The Little Old Lady Who is Not Afraid of Anything." Librarian Denise Wilson will tell some riddles and jokes, too. This is decidedly not scary, and masks aren't allowed in county buildings. It's all free.
MINIATURE SUPERHEROES, witches, ghosts, storybook characters, various animals, insects and mythological creatures will gather at the Ashland library at 3:30 p.m. for the immensely popular, fun-filled Children's Halloween Parade down Main Street to the Ashland Plaza. There'll be trick-or-treating, face-painting, entertainment from the Ashland Middle School Band, the Ashland High School Band, Samba Like It Hot and others.
MAKE YOUR HALLOWEEN FUNKTASTIC with the Historic Ashland Armory's Spookadelic Halloween Funktacular, starting at 7 p.m. at 208 Oak St. The fun includes dance music by Brooklyn funk bank the Pimps of Joytime, spins by a couple of DJs and performances by several dance companies. Costumes are strongly encouraged. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door at www.spookadelic.brownpapertickets.com, Music Coop in Ashland or Magic Man in Medford and Grants Pass.
