Teen jailed in Sears burglary attempt

An 18-year-old Medford teen is in the Jackson County Jail after police arrested him early this morning in the Sears store at the Medford Shopping Center.

Joshua Montegna, of the 2000 block of Westwood Drive, was lodged in the jail on charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree theft, being a felon in possession of a firearm, criminal trespass with a firearm, second-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest.

Police responded to a 4:46 a.m. burglar alarm at the store and arrived to find a glass entry door shattered.

They searched the store with police dog Rudi and saw a man running through the tool section with a small bag, they said. The dog stopped the man, who continued to struggle with officers, police said. One officer fired a Taser gun at the man during the struggle.

They took a loaded handgun and about $1,000 worth of store jewelry from him as he was arrested, police said.
