Talent man hospitalized after girlfriend allegedly stabs him in the torso

TALENT — A Talent woman was arrested Tuesday after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend with a fillet knife, police said.

Denise Loraine Gray was arguing with her boyfriend, Joshua Haworth, 37, in the back room of the house they share in the 1300 block of Talent Avenue when she threatened him with a knife, Talent police Detective Matt Potts said.

"He said he begged her to put the knife down, which she did," Potts said. "But in a moment of anger she picked it up again and stabbed him in the left side of his torso."

The small fillet knife punctured one of Haworth's lungs, Potts said.

Haworth waited an hour before a friend convinced him he needed to go to the hospital. He admitted himself to Ashland Community Hospital and was then transferred to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, Potts said.

He remained hospitalized late Wednesday in fair condition, according to RVMC officials.

Gray was charged with first-degree assault and second-degree assault. She remained lodged in the Jackson County Jail late Wednesday on $100,000 bail.

First-degree assault carries a mandatory 90 month prison sentence upon conviction under Oregon law.
