Substation problem left nearly 700 in dark

Failure of equipment at a power substation left 696 customers around in the dark for about three hours Wednesday night.

Pacific Power spokesman Monte Mendenhall said a link between the substation and the distribution circuit that sends power down the lines to customers failed at about 8:25 p.m. The failure flipped a circuit breaker at the Campbell Substation, just south of Centennial Golf Course, plunging customers along Highway 99 and in the Phoenix area into darkness.

Repairs were made by about 11:30 p.m., Mendenhall said.
