Strong third period lifts Puget Sound by Wranglers

Steven Richards scored twice, including an empty-net goal in the final seconds, as the Puget Sound Tomahawks completed a three-game sweep of the Rogue Valley Wranglers with a 4-2 victory in NORPAC action at The RRRink on Sunday.

Rogue Valley (2-38) was a perfeft 11-for-11 killing penalties and stayed in the game through two periods despite being outshot.

The Wranglers took a 2-1 lead midway through the second period on Adam Webster's powerplay goal. Gabe Creigh tied the game at 2-all just nine second before the second intermission.

Puget Sound (14-26) got off 23 shots against Wrangler goalie Nick Cafrelli in the third period, breaking a tie on Josh Fusco's goal with 8:11 remaining. The Wranglers pulled Cafrelli for an extra attacker in the final minute, but were not able to get the tying goal past Puget Sound goalie Jimmy Lemming, who made 34 saves. Cafrelli finished with 56 saves in another valient effort for Rogue Valley.

After Richards opened the scoring in the first period, Rogue Valley's Steffan Buck tied the contest at 7:47 of the second. The, with Richards in the penalty box for high sticking, Webster gave the Wranglers the lead at 2-1.

The Wranglers visit Coeur d'Alene to open a two-game series on Friday. Both of the Wranglers' wins this season have come against the Lakers.
