St. Mary's, North shine with grades

For a second straight year, all six fall sports teams at St. Mary's high school rank in the top 10 for Class 2A on the Dairy Farmers of Oregon Academic All-State lists.

The Crusaders' football team ranks No. 1 in Class 2A and fourth among all classifications with a team 3.44 grade-point average and the girls soccer team is also No. 1 in Class 2A with a team 3.84 GPA. The St. Mary's boys soccer and boys cross country teams are second with a 3.53 GPA and 3.61 GPA, respectively. The volleyball team ranks 10th at 3.55.

North Medford had five of six fall teams place among the Class 6A top 10, including football (No. 2, 3.37), girls cross country (No. 2, 3.95), volleyball (No. 3, 3.76), boys cross country (No. 7, 3.59) and girls soccer (No. 8, 3.69).

Ashland's boys soccer tied Cleveland for the top GPA in Class 5A at 3.55. The Grizzlies also placed their girls soccer team (No. 4, 3.65) and boys cross country (No. 6, 3.61).

Other area 6A placers included South Medford's boys cross country team (No. 6, 3.62) and its girls cross country team (No. 10, 3.76).

Crater's volleyball team finished second among Class 5A teams with a 3.71 GPA and the Comets' girls cross country team was eighth at 3.80.

Phoenix also had two teams in the top 10 in Class 4A, those being its girls cross country team (No. 5, 3.89) and boys cross country team (3.58).

At the 3A level, Cascade Christian's highest placer was its girls soccer team at No. 4 with a 3.67 GPA followed by its boys cross country team (No. 8, 3.43) and football team (No. 8, 3.01).

Rogue River placed eighth in volleyball with a 3.49 GPA and 10th in girls soccer at 3.26.
