Sportsmen's show starts Friday

Some of the top guides, outdoor writers and fishing professionals in the Pacific Northwest will be featured during a series of seminars and giant fish-tank demonstrations at the KDRV Jackson County Sportsmen's and Outdoor Recreation Show, to be held Friday-Sunday, Feb. 25-27, at the Jackson County Expo in Central Point.

Forty seminars and tank demonstrations are scheduled.

Rick Rockholt of Diamond Lake Resort will talk about Diamond Lake's trout fishery and give three seminars.

New this year are spring turkey and river waterfowl seminars by hunting and fishing guide Jody Smith.

Fishing guides Gary Lewis, Pete McMenamin, Randy Wells and Andy Martin will give presentations on topics ranging from Umpqua River smallmouth to Chetco River salmon to Coos Bay trolling techniques.

Also new this year are seminars on how to get a concealed handgun license and how to set up year-long food storage.

Demonstrations on the giant fish tank include Phil Strader discussing bass and steelhead techniques, spinner guru Dean Hendricks on family fishing, and fishing guide Kelly Short on salmon fishing.

Other exhibitions include rafting, wildlife art, taxidermy, photography, archery, cooking, travel, custom rods, fishing tackle, tents, dogs, footwear and fly tying.
