Baylor women are at topof AP preseason poll

Brittney Griner and Baylor are starting the season where they hope to end it — at No. 1.

The Lady Bears are ranked at the top for the first time in the preseason women's basketball poll by The Associated Press. Baylor started last year at No. 2 before ascending to No. 1 in early January for the first time in school history. The Lady Bears finished with a No. 3 ranking.

McIlroy takes 3-strokelead in Shanghai Masters

SHANGHAI — U.S. Open champion Rory McIlroy shot a 7-under 65 on Saturday to increase his lead to three strokes after the third round of the Shanghai Masters.

The 22-year-old star from Northern Ireland made seven birdies in another bogey-free round on Lake Malaren's Jack Nicklaus-designed Masters course to finish at 18-under 198.

American Anthony Kim was second after a 65.

SOTOGRANDE, Spain — Sergio Garcia put himself in position for a second straight European Tour victory on Saturday, shooting a 4-under 67 at the Andalucia Masters to take a two-stroke lead after the third round.

Garcia moved to 6 under 207, ahead of Miguel Angel Jimenez (68) and Sweden's Christian Nilsson, who matched the lowest round this weekend with a 65.

Kvitova, Azarenka meet in WTA Championships final

ISTANBUL — Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova will play Victoria Azarenka in the WTA Championships final today with the No. 2 ranking on the line along with a $1.5 million paycheck.

Kvitova, a Czech left-hander with booming serves, rallied to defeat U.S. Open winner Samantha Stosur 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals Saturday, while fourth-ranked Azarenka defeated Vera Zvonareva 6-2, 6-3.

Hamlin get first victory inTruck Series with late pass

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Denny Hamlin ducked inside points leader Austin Dillon and four-time Truck Series champion Ron Hornaday Jr. after a restart with 14 laps to go and went on to win at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday.

Hamlin's first victory in the series, in a truck owned by Kyle Busch, made him the 23rd driver to win a race in each of NASCAR's three national series.

NEW DELHI — Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel topped qualifying Saturday for the inaugural Indian Grand Prix for his 13th pole of the season, one short of Nigel Mansell's 1992 Formula One record.

Vettel turned a lap in 1 minute, 24.178 seconds on the 3.192-mile Buddh International Circuit. The German star has already wrapped up his second straight season title and has 10 victories this year.

Ayrton Senna (1988 and 1989) and Alain Prost (1993) also had 13 poles in a season.

LAS VEGAS — Del Worsham raced to the No. 1 Top Fuel qualifying position at the Big O Tires NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday.

Ron Capps, Mike Edwards and Hector Arana Jr. were provisional No. 1 qualifiers in their categories.

Worsham powered his dragster to a run of 3.796-seconds at 322.88 mph in the last qualifying session.
