Speaker addresses violence against women

Educator, author, filmmaker and social theorist Dr. Jackson Katz will give a multimedia presentation from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight designed to inspire men and women to confront violence against women, especially on college campuses.

The presentation, entitled “More Than a Few Good Men,” will take place in the Rogue River Room of Stevenson Union on the Southern Oregon University campus. Admission is free.

Katz's presentation covers sexual and domestic violence, pornography, prostitution and stripping. Traditionally, these issues have been considered “women's issues.” “More Than a Few Good Men,” by contrast, focuses on the lives and attitudes of boys and men. He strives to stimulate dialogue to show how individuals' problems are linked to larger social forces.

Katz is internationally recognized for his groundbreaking work in gender violence prevention education in schools, the sports culture and the military, as well as for his pioneering work in critical media literacy. He is co-founder of the multiracial, mixed-gender Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) program at Northeastern University's Center for the Study of Sport in Society.
