Spartans' surge overtakes Bay Area

VACAVILLE, Calif. — The Southern Oregon Spartans scored three unanswered goals, spanning the second and third periods, and defeated the Bay Area Seals 4-2 in WSHL hockey at the Cow Palace Friday.

The Spartans improved to 23-16-1 and remain five points ahead of Ogden in the Pacific Division. The Seals, of the Western Division, dropped to 20-15-1.

After Southern Oregon's Avik Bordak and Bay Area's Filip Ondracek exchanged the first goals — the latter on a power play — the Spartans took command.

Joe Bordak scored at the 14:24 mark, then Anthony Golio followed less than four minutes later. Kevin Edwards made it 4-1, Southern Oregon, just 58 seconds into the third period.

Wes Star scored the final goal for the Seals, also on a power play.

Sebastian Romeo had two assists for Southern Oregon, which visits the Seals today and again Sunday.

The Spartans were 0-for-4 on power plays and took 31 shots to the Seals' 29.
