Spartans fall short against Cheyenne

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Cheyenne Stampede scored two third-period goals and rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Southern Oregon Spartans in WSHL hockey Friday.

The Spartans ((7-11-0) took a 2-1 lead into the final period.

Cheyenne tied the score 2-all on Thayne Trumbull's power play goal with 7:30 gone in the period. Then Jacob Eisenstat put in the game-winner almost 51/2 minutes later.

Southern Oregon led 1-0 at the end of the first period on a goal by Donnie Nagle IV about midway through the stanza. Arturs Buss and Justus Saldeen assisted.

Tyler Spencer's goal off assists from Saldeen and Taylor McConnell gave the Spartans a 2-0 lead early in the second period.

Spartan goalie Ian Dvorak recorded 41 saves.

The teams play the second of the three-game series at 6:35 p.m. today.
