Soroptimists raise money for women's health

The 6th annual Soroptimist Wine Walk for Women's Health, which assists uninsured and under-insured women with health care needs, will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 16.

Event officials said in a news release that they are looking for sponsors, teams and individual participants.

The 3 1/2 mile walk will be among the vineyards at Del Rio Vineyard and Winery in Gold Hill and will feature tasting wine from seven vineyards, including Cliff Creek Cellars, Del Rio, EdenVale Winery, LongSword/ Fly High Vineyard, Quady North Winery, Serra Vineyards and Slagle Creek Vineyards. Music will be provided by the band Hired Gun.

The Wine Walk is sponsored by all the local Soroptimist clubs. It raises money to help low income women who are under-insured or uninsured to get care for diseases that affect women. Funds will be distributed to hospitals and community groups including American Cancer Society, Asante, Ashland Community Hospital, and Providence Community Health Foundation for cancer treatment-related services. Soroptimists report raising $10,000 to $12,000 annually from the Wine Walk and distributing all money locally.

Sponsors can contribute at any of five levels of support, ranging from $5,000 to $350. Businesses, churches, groups and individuals are invited to form teams to celebrate the day with wine, music, food, and costumes. Along with the wine tasting, registered participants will receive a souvenir wine glass, snack, and team photos.
