Solar tours planned

Oregon Green & Solar Tours, a statewide event organized by Solar Oregon, has a tour scheduled in the Applegate Oct. 3 and in Ashland on Oct. 10.

The tours, planned in communities around the state in the coming weeks, offer homeowners and businesses examples of technology, techniques and supplies for shrinking energy costs and environmental impact.

Communities across the state will offer tours of local homes and businesses showing everything from the latest in renewable power, like solar electric and solar water heating, to innovative energy-saving and environmentally-sensitive building practices, such as using earth-friendly and recycled materials, rainwater harvesting and passive solar design.

While each tour reflects the unique interests of its community, the events share a common goal to educate, according to Hadley Price, marketing and business development director, Solar Oregon.

Solar Oregon, a nonprofit organization, provides public education and community outreach to encourage Oregonians to choose solar energy. The group is working with local tour coordinators to plan and implement tours. The Oregon Department of Energy is a title sponsor for the event.

Other upcoming community tours include: Bend/Redmond/Central Oregon, Hood River, John Day, Newberg, Roseburg, Wallowa County and Coos Bay on Oct. 3; Eugene on Oct. 4; Klamath Falls on Sept. 26, Salem on Oct. 2. For more information, visit
