Smoke from controlled burn blows into town

Smoke from a 64-acre controlled burn near Gold Hill blew into Medford Friday afternoon but didn't create unhealthy air.

Residents in the Medford could smell the smoke ushered in by afternoon winds from the Northwest.

"I can see that ridge where the controlled burn is located, and the top of it is showing smoke," said Sven Nelaimischkies, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Medford.

He said it's a little smoky in the Medford area but air quality levels were still listed in the "good" range at 4 p.m.

The controlled burn is located on Galls Creek near Gold Hill and Rogue River and is being conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
