Ski area adds 4 inches of snow

The Mount Ashland ski area reported 4 inches of new snow overnight, bringing its mountaintop total to 43 inches — and more snow was falling this morning.

At 11 a.m. today, the ski area reported temperatures of 18 degrees, with moderate snow falling. In the past seven days, the mountain has received 16 inches of new snow and its snow depth now ranges from 30 inches at the lodge to 43 inches on top.

All four chairlifts were operating at the area, which is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day through Jan. 4. After that, the area will revert to its regular schedule and will be closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The mountain’s skiing surface still has a few rocks and obstructions poking through — skiers and boarders are urged to use caution.

The road is plowed and snow covered. A Sno-Park pass is required and may be purchased at the mountain and most local ski shops.
