Sheriff aids 2 Klamath searches

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department sent a helicopter to Klamath County to help with two searches Wednesday.

A 4-year-old child was reported missing in the Chiloquin area, and Jackson County search teams went to help at about 1:30 p.m. While ground teams waited on standby, the helicopter found the child at about 2:45 p.m. in a semi-rural area with lots of trees and brush, officials said.

At about 4 p.m. the team was called again to help find an injured hiker on the Pacific Crest Trail, the sheriff's department said in a news release.

The helicopter found the hiker on the trail near Highway 140 and lowered a medic to provide assistance. The hiker declined an airlift and walked out to a base camp at a nearby snow park with Klamath County searchers.
