Service planned for teen killed in Medford accident

A memorial service for Manuel Antonio-Gonzalez, the 15-year-old struck and killed on Riverside Avenue April 13, is set for 4 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 326 S. Oakdale Ave., Medford.

Manuel was born in Medford and attended Wilson Elementary School. He has an older sister, Nila, 17, and a younger sister, Guadalupe, 10, and a younger brother, Juan, 13. His father was deported a few years ago and lives in Tijuana, Mexico.

Juan and Manuel each spent time in Mexico, living with their maternal grandmother and other family members. Manuel had most recently lived in Washington with an aunt, before returning to Medford to live with his mother, Lidia Gonzalez, and stepfather.

The family wants send his body back to Manzanillo, Colima, on Mexico's Pacific coast for burial after the service.

Saundra McLean, general manager of SpringHill Suites in Medford, where Gonzalez works, has established an account in the name of Manuel Antonio-Gonzalez at PremierWest Bank. Donations to help ease the financial strain on the family can be made at any PremierWest branch.
