September vacancy rate rises

The rental vacancy rate in Jackson and Josephine counties rose slightly in September, but is down from recent post-Labor Day readings.

Southern Oregon Rental Owners Association members reported a 4.63 percent vacancy rate for September. That's up from a 3.93 percent June reading. However, the reported vacancy rate was 8.2 percent a year ago, following a 5.5 percent measure in September 2008 and a 5.9 percent rate the previous year.

SOROA members counted 188 vacancies out of 4,063 units.

The association is holding a collections seminar, noon to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 5. James Stout will be the facilitator. The session will be held at 10 Crater Lake Ave., Medford. Call 541-842-7676 to register. The cost is $25 for members and $30 for non-members.
