SCAM ALERT

Editor's note: Scams will be posted in this column as local law enforcement or the Oregon Attorney General's Office becomes aware of them.

Oregon Attorney General John Kroger is warning consumers about e-mails that claim to be from McDonald's asking customers to complete a survey and receive $150.

The e-mail claims to have selected a "special" few to take the Satisfaction Survey. It looks authentic because it includes the Golden Arches logo and Ronald McDonald dancing.

McDonald's is warning customers on its Web site, www.mcdonalds.com (click on "contact us"), that it is not responsible for the e-mail.

The scam appears to be the work of identity thieves because the survey asks customers for their credit card number and expiration date.

Consumers seeking information should contact the attorney general's consumer hotline at 1-877-877-9392. The attorney general's Web site is www.doj.state.or.us.
