Rogue River man saves man from drowning

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said a Rogue River man saved another man from drowning when he saw him floating face down in the Rogue River Wednesday night.

John Haight, 54, was cutting his grass at about 8:15 p.m. when he stepped off to talk to his nephew. Both noticed a man floating down the river face down. Haight ran down to the river and jumped in to swim after the man, 70-year-old Leonard Wrobel, also of Rogue River. He reached him, pulled him to shore and started CPR.

Wrobel began to breathe after about five minutes. He was transported to Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass for observation. His current condition is not yet known.
