River City drops Wranglers

Kevin Nighbert had two goals and two assists as the River City Jaguars overcame an early deficit and defeated the Rogue Valley Wranglers 10-5 in a NORPAC league hockey game at the RRRink on Friday night.

Duston Fender had a goal and an assist for Rogue Valley (0-14) in the first of a three-game series this weekend.

Nat Schursky's team-leading 10th goal of the season came 2:29 into the game and gave Rogue Valley a 1-0 lead. River City (11-4) responded with a goal by Zach Nicholas to tie the game at 1-all midway through the first.

Rudi Pino put River City ahead to stay with a goal five minutes and Nighbert followed up with a score less than a minute after that for a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period.

Kris Kesner drew Rogue Valley within 3-2 on a goal early in the second before River City scored the next four to put the game away.

David Giguere and Dustin Fender scored third-period goals for the Wranglers. Fender also had two assists in the contest.

Wranglers' goalie Nick Cafrelli made 34 saves on 41 shots before giving way to Daniel Lefotu midway through the third period.

Fans attending tonight's game get 50 percent off admission by bringing three canned goods to the gate. Wranglers players will deliver the food collected during the food drive will be delivered to St. Vincent de Paul food bank on Monday.

Game time is 8:05 p.m.

Sunday's game has been moved to 3:35 p.m.
