Medford police provided this surveillance photo of a truck suspected of being linked to the theft.

Reward offered in theft of Caterpillar tractor and trailer

Police are searching for a man who stole a large trailer and a Caterpillar tractor Monday evening.

The suspect pulled a Chevy or GMC pick-up into the lot of Oregon Heating and Repair in the 1800 block of Delta Waters Road. He quickly hitched up the trailer with the loader and pulled away and was last seen heading toward Highway 62.

"The surveillance video showed that it took him only five minutes hook up the trailer and drive away," Medford police Detective Sgt. Scott Clauson said.

The truck is described as a white 1998-2002 Chevy or GMC pickup with four doors. The paint has faded and chipped away on the top of the cab and on the rear passenger side door frame, police said. The pickup could have a fifth-wheel hitch in the bed.

The stolen trailer is a black 2006 Towmaster T-HD12, with Oregon license plate HU 00253. The tractor is a 2001 Caterpillar 226B.

"We believe the equipment is most likely out of the area," Clauson said. "The suspect might be attempting to sell it in another state."

The case could be related to another recent trailer theft that happened in the county, Clauson said.
