Retired cardiologist honored

Retired cardiologist John Forsyth will receive the second annual Chairman's Award, an honor given by the Jackson County Board of Commissioners to a local resident whose life achievements have made a profound difference in Jackson County residents' lives.

Commissioners John Rachor, C.W. Smith and Don Skundrick will present the award at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the Jackson County Courthouse Auditorium, 10 S. Oakdale Ave.

Forsyth practiced medicine in the Rogue Valley from 1970 to 2004, serving on ethics committees at Rogue Regional Medical Center and Providence Medford Medical Center, according to a Jackson County news release. The Oregon Medical Association named him Physician Citizen of the Year in 1998. He is also a volunteer clinical consultant at the Community Health Center, where he has served for 17 years. In addition he helped form Volunteers for Patient Access to Consultation and Treatment, a collaborative effort to provide specialist care to low-income and uninsured patients.
