Rep. Hicks to seek re-election

GRANTS PASS — State Rep. Wally Hicks, R-Grants Pass, has announced he will seek re-election to the Oregon House of Representatives. Hicks said his campaign will focus on putting Southern Oregon back to work and keeping communities safe.

"I'm running for re-election because many Josephine County families are suffering, and the Legislature needs leaders who will work with businesses to help protect existing jobs and create new ones," Hicks said. "I'll continue to support our natural resource-based industries and others in the private sector who will lead our economic recovery."

Hicks serves as vice-chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and is co-vice-chairman of the Ways and Means Public Safety Subcommittee. A former Josephine County deputy district attorney, he said he's committed to giving law enforcement the tools and resources it needs to reduce crime.

Hicks won his first legislative term in the November 2010 general election, replacing Ron Maurer, who vacated the seat to make an unsuccessful run for state schools superintendent.

A native of Eugene, Hicks started work in the Josephine County District Attorney's Office in 2008, after graduating from the University of Oregon School of Law.
