Purslow's 2 goals leads Wranglers to victory

Jeff Purslow scored two goals and Jesse Martorano added a goal and an assist as the Rogue Valley Wranglers slipped past Sacramento State 6-5 in an exhibition hockey match at The RRRink on Saturday.

Purslow gave the Wranglers the initial lead in the opening period off assists from both D.J. Giguere and Martorano.

After Sacramento State tied the match, Aaron Riemersma gave Rogue Valley the lead for good with two minutes remaining in the period off an assist from Sam Jossie.

The Wranglers distanced themselves with goals by P.J. Brown and Martorano the first 21/2 minutes of the second stanza.

Purslow tallied his second goal near the end of the period to give Rogue Valley a 5-3 lead going into the final period.

Wrangler goaltenders Christian Kramer and Jarod Blanton combined for 31 saves.

Rogue Valley will host Tri City in its junior hockey league home opener at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at the RRRink.
