Police seek man indicted on attempted murder charge

A grand jury has indicted a man on attempted murder and other charges in what police describe as a gang-related shooting that occurred in March.

No one was injured in the shooting, which occurred March 27 in the 700 block of Crater Lake Avenue. The suspect, Jose Manuel Macias, 21, is still at large, Medford police said in a release this evening.

Macias was indicted Wednesday on charges of attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault, felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, menacing and reckless endangering.

When police responded to the shooting, reported at about 4:30 p.m., they found no victim or suspect but evidence of at least one round being fired.

Investigators later determined the shooting was gang-related and involved SureÃ3/8os and NorteÃ3/8os members. Several of the involved parties were uncooperative with the investigators, police said.

Macias has an unrelated warrant for parole violation from a previous robbery conviction.

Macias is described as 5 foot 7, weighing 140 pounds and having multiple tattoos visible on his neck.He should be considered armed and dangerous, they said.
