Police official joins RCC board

A Medford deputy police chief has been named to the Rogue Community College board.

Randy Sparacino, who lives in Central Point, will represent the northwest portion of Jackson County. He fills the seat most recently held by Joe Keith, who resigned this summer, citing personal issues that distracted him from board duties.

Keith had served a year on the board.

Sparacino will serve through June 2011, and can run for election in May 2011 to fill out the rest of Keith's term, which would have lasted until 2013.

Four candidates applied for the seat and were interviewed Sept. 14. RCC Board member Kevin Talbert said in a statement announcing Sparacino's appointment that all candidates were highly qualified.

Sparacino is a past criminology instructor at RCC. He earned both a bachelor's degree in social science and a master's degree in management from Southern Oregon State University.
