Police jump in to help Special Olympics

On Friday, Feb. 4, fully clothed Medford police Officer Dan Ashworth will leap into the icy cold Hawthorne Park swimming pool, followed by colleagues, friends and neighbors, as part of the annual Polar Plunge fundraiser for Special Olympics Oregon.

Each plunger will have raised a minimum of $50 in pledges from friends and family for the privilege of running into the water.

Polar Plunge Oregon is sponsored by Fred Meyer, with support by Oregon law enforcement agencies through the Law Enforcement Torch Run event.

People wishing to join the plunge can register online at plungeoregon.com. Those who don't want to go into the cold water themselves can support another plunger or team, or they can take the "Too Chicken to Plunge" option. Details are on the website.
